From Cum Laude to Cash Flow

As we celebrated Caroline’s cum laude ceremony last night…
and get ready for her to head off to college next year…
I found myself thinking about one of my favorite Modern Family episodes—Phil-osophy—when Phil sends Haley off to college.
So instead of Phil’s book of wisdom…
I thought I’d share my own version—this time about money:
Mom-ology: 10 Things I Want My Girls to Know About Money (and Life)
1. If you get dumped by a boyfriend, focus on work.
When you make more money, he might suddenly find you "interesting" again.
2. The stock market is like dating.
Everyone wants the hot one after it already went up.
3. If a man says, “I’ll take care of you,”
translate that to: “I’d prefer you not understand the finances.”
4. The fastest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your wallet.
5. If your friends all bought a hot stock, you are already late to the party.
6. If someone tells you something is a “sure thing,” run.
7. Never confuse a big house with a wealthy life.
8. The biggest risk in investing (and in life) is not taking any.
9. Some people spend money to look rich. Others invest money to be rich.
10. The most expensive lifestyle is trying to impress people you don’t like.
(Bonus)
The smartest investment you’ll ever make is in yourself.
Money is funny.
The rules are simple… but life makes them hard to follow.
And if there’s one thing I’ve learned—
It’s this: Financial independence isn’t about money.
It’s about having the freedom to make your own choices.
What would you do if you didn't have to worry about money?
