Hustle Culture

On a recent trip to visit Nashville, it was the first time my daughter and I took a trip just the two of us. Caroline loved Vanderbilt and Nashville.
Beautiful city. The weather was perfect.
On the car ride up, we briefly discussed how Taylor Swift moved there and got a record deal.
She hustled.
She went around to all of the record labels, dropped off her demo tape.
And got no calls.
She realized everyone else was doing the same thing.
But then one nice man reached out, with an act of kindness and
advised her to create a video about her family, about her activities,
Basically, who is she??
Why does this matter?
As I think back on getting my first job at a hedge fund. I met with friends from business school who were already in a seat; I practiced pitching my investment ideas to them.
When I had my first interview, I almost got the job on the spot!
Of course, my boss did a background check on me.
But here are two secrets.
1. He didn’t buy or short any of my ideas after I was hired. He just wanted to hear how I invest, how I think, and where I get my ideas.
2. Most people value those who hustle b/c they know what they want.
So with investing, writing or anything in life, I look at the world around me and seek to understand and try to see where the opportunities are.
For Caroline or anyone who wants to stand out, we all need to
hustle, practice, and go after what we want.
Times are tough, but for those who know what they want and go after it, they have a much better chance of succeeding.
Once you figure out what you want, it's much easier to go after it.
Reach out if you need a financial plan to get you going!!
