Marrying a Man Is Not a Financial Plan.

I just finished reading 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘴 by Belle Burden.

It's one of the best books I've read on what NOT to do with your money in a marriage.

Belle was married to a successful hedge fund manager.

Big house. Nice life. She thought she was set.

But she made 3 mistakes that cost her millions:

𝟭. 𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.

All the investments. All the bills.

She had no idea how much money they were spending.

Clueless.

𝟮. 𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗲𝘀.

Her husband made millions — and she didn't even know it.

She signed the returns without reviewing them.

𝟯. 𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁.

So much that she let him change her prenup.

He kept all of his earnings during the marriage.

She walked away with almost nothing.

I read this book and thought about my mom.

She told me to "marry rich."

But she never told me to understand the money.

That's the trap.

You can marry a wealthy man and still end up broke.

You can have a big house and no idea what's in the bank.

You can trust your partner and still not know how to protect yourself.

Financial independence isn't about distrust.

It's about awareness.

Know what you're spending.

Know what you're earning.

Know what you're signing.

Because the most expensive mistake a woman can make?

Assuming someone else has it handled.
