Recently, I spent a day in Philadelphia, moving my daughter into her dorm at the University of Pennsylvania. As a parent, it’s a bittersweet moment—exciting for her new phase but also a reminder that time is flying by.
While I’m not quite an empty nester yet—I still have two more kids at home—many of my friends are, and I feel like I'm always in transition.
If I’ve learned anything from my experience, it’s that transitions are opportunities for reinvention.
Whether it’s diving deeper into personal passions, investing in relationships, or taking on new challenges, there’s always something to be excited about.
With one kid out of the house, I have a little more space.
My advice to those entering this next phase is to focus on what brings you joy and purpose—whether that’s volunteering, traveling, pursuing a new hobby, or even starting a new venture.
For me, what brings me joy and purpose is connecting more with people and writing my blog ;-).
Thank you to HBS Career & Professional Development for sharing my story and supporting my transition nine years ago. Link to article here. This platform allowed me to redefine my path, moving from the high-stakes world of investment banking, hedge funds to personalized financial advising, where I found my true passion. It’s a reminder that life’s chapters, though different, can be equally fulfilling if we approach them with the right mindset.
Whether you’re an empty nester or still in the thick of it, remember that each phase of life brings its own unique rewards. Embrace the transition, and keep moving.
Thank you for reading.
