Who is part of your Essential Services Team? Doctor, Dentist & Financial Advisor

There’s a reason doctors, dentists and other service providers are considered essential services: they keep us healthy, and look for potential problems before they become a crisis.

Shouldn’t a financial advisor be on that list too?

Making better financial decisions to secure your future and build wealth is just as important as getting a yearly physical and having your teeth cleaned, but many people hated math in high school or feel intimidated by Wall Street jargon that they don’t understand.

You should be an active and educated consumer of financial planning advice, just as you would ask your doctor questions about a procedure they recommend or a test they want to run.

The more knowledgeable you become about investment instruments, risk, historical returns, compound interest and other financial concepts, the more comfortable and confident you will become about taking on an appropriate amount of investment risk that is right for your particular situation and stage of life.

Beware of quacks or empty suits in the asset management profession who might try to talk over your head, and look for a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ who has a solid track record and truly listens to what you need, your goals, your dreams and your questions.

Think of it as seeing a money doctor, as The Economist once noted.

Unlike elective or vanity procedures like veneers for your teeth or cosmetic surgery, seeing your financial planner should be a must-do.
