Games people play

Should every day be just a game?
Over the last few years, I became an early adopter of one of the fastest-growing games:
Mahjong.
We gather to socialize, catch up on our kids and school, and of course
—play the game.
Honestly, if we have plans to play, it’s often the highlight of my week.
But Mahjong is no easy game.
You’re dealt a card full of patterns.
You draw, pass, and discard tiles in search of order
—amid the chaos.
As Julia Roberts once said, Mahjong is like life:
unpredictable, strategic, and deeply human.
Every day brings a little randomness.
So I’ve been thinking about my own game of life.
And here’s what’s on my play card:
- Agency
- Self-awareness
- Resilience
- Honesty
- Kindness
Others may play a different game
—chasing power, money, fame, or pleasure.
That might be their strategy to win.
But without friends, family, faith, and meaningful work,
what’s the point?
The real goal is playing the right game.
I don’t always win.
But I feel lucky to be in the game
—especially when I get to play alongside women who are beautiful inside and out.
Thank you, Dana Carpenter, for hosting us this week and winning #Mahjong 4x!
I wish I had taken a photo but instead, I took this one below after my daily morning run.
Thank you for reading!
