Some of my best memories in my 30s was not having babies or getting married,
it was making money based on my stock picks.
But getting my boss to buy my investment recommendations
that was a different story.
I was constantly in combat mode, working and living in New York.
My boss and I debated valuation, catalysts, and earnings expectations.
Oftentimes, I just had to defend my positions.
It was a jungle.
I would argue with taxi drivers.
I would secretly swear at slow-walking tourists.
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere.
It's up to you New York, New York.
Then we moved to the south in my 40s.
My world changed.
There is no more rush.
No fast pace way of getting things done.
No running to the train.
But sometimes I can’t help myself.
I still have some of my New York State of Mind.
So when someone said to me a few months ago, she wanted to test me out first,
before she committed, I took it personally.
At first, I wanted to tell her maybe we were not a good fit.
After I obsessed about the situation for a day or two,
I realized I had to remove myself from the equation.
It’s not about me.
It’s about her.
It’s not about me.
It’s about her.
I have lived in 2 different worlds.
Not everyone else has.
We must have rounded knowledge.
We must have deeper feelings.
When I emailed her telling her I totally agree and support her decision,
She was more than appreciative of my compassion and understanding of her situation.
It felt good and rewarding.
It’s not all about making money.
In the South, it is all about the relationship.
This is what matters most.
